Race Relations Day

Today May Road School celebrated Race Relations Day. Children came to school dressed in their cultural clothes and our school assembly was dedicated to the day. We are so lucky in Room 2 to have children and teachers from around the world - it makes our classroom an interesting place to be and it is wonderful to make friends with people from different cultures.

Look at our beautiful clothes!

EOTC Week

Last week was our EOTC week (Education Outside the Classroom). Room 2 did lots of fun outdoor activities to learn how to cooperate with a partner and improve fitness. We were all VERY tired by the
end of the week!

A well deserved rest after walking up our local volcano, Puketapapa (Mt Roskill)

Green Day and Mr Gibson

Last Friday, May Road School had a Green Day. The day had an environmental focus - making our school environment more attractive, thinking about why we should recycle and why we need to put our rubbish in the correct bin. For an extra bit of fun, we tried to wear something green - well done Room 2 children, nearly everyone wore something green!

We were also very fortunate to have our student teacher, Mr Gibson, volunteer to come in and help the children and teachers in Room 2. Thank-you Mr Gibson, your help was much appreciated!

Together, we finished our mural on the deck outside the classroom, visited our veggie garden and tidied up the front of the school. It was a fun and educational day! Thanks to everyone who took part 😀

Welcome to Room 2's blog for 2017! We have already started our learning. Mele says we have been learning about rules that keep us safe and happy. Valentino says we have to keep our hands and our feet to ourselves.  Lukman says we have to listen to our partner. Rosa Tida says we have to speak nicely to each other. Abdifatah says we need to take turns when we speak. Jesse reminds us that we need to keep our hands and our feet to ourselves and to speak nicely. Disha says we need to share and talk to our partner. Emharze says we have to value our learning and respect all others!! Wow, great learning Room 2 children!

Maths - Probability

We have been learning about probability. Our learning has mainly been around probability vocabulary, exploring the meaning of words such as will, will not, might, could, definitely, chances and to some extent, likelihood. To help us, we watched an on-line book and read a story called Probably Pistachio. These stories also introduced us to the concept of chance, for example, what are the chances of picking a red apple out of a bag of 10 apples if there are 7 red apples and 3 green apples?

Below are photos of children exploring probability vocabulary.
